In his most recent project, Bert Gstettner assumes the roles of choreographer, as well as dancer, and, together with three other dancers, explores the relationship between humans and nature. In doing so, the performers enter a dialog with the music. They interact with the room and the objects inside it. As its central element the performance communicates, connects, and contrasts in the trinity of time-space-human – through the performance of the dancers between sound and image – fills it with movement rhythm and the colors of the costumes.
The collaboration with the visual artist Peter Sandbichler, results in his intervention in the space of the stage being an independent piece of art. He installs his, described by Bert Gstettner as “orna-monumental”, architecture, made of recycled parts, and brings, with a powerful gesture, an entire landscape into the scene.
B*BEPPU references its title from a place in Japan. Beppu is well known for its natural phenomena. Inspired by these, the musical cooperation of the Japanese Koto player Chieko Mori and the Austrian computer musician Oliver Grimm was created. The hot springs of Beppu are associated with both magical energy and, with their steaming cracks in the earths surface, the gates of hell, which can symbolize the underworld, or the abysses of our subconscious.

B*BEPPU | Eden - Video Dance:
This dance video is part of the B*BEPPU project 2023: Video - Stage - Sitespecific. The footage was filmed with kind permission at JO's garden.
Invited to Dance Days Chania - International Contemporary Dance Festival 2024
Category "Video Dance" presented on July 24th and 30th, 2024.
B*BEPPU | Eden - Videodance was filmed during the preparation for a new contemporary dance choreography, in the private garden of a famous Viennese architect. The relationship between the building and the garden appears in a well-kept order and disorder, showing the smooth and respectful transition between dynamic nature and built structure. The dancers relate to plants, water and to each other, indicating the loss of untouched nature.
The banishment from paradise seems to be an ongoing, repeating process, until mankind is not existing anymore. An irrational automortal mechanism coming from the wrong idea of constant robbery and exploitation of nature.
B*Beppu leads into the remaining desire with nature. B.G.
